The New Mysteries-Book of Sherlock Holmes brings together for the first time all the Sherlock Holmes stories written by award-winning crime author Martin Edwards. David Stuart Davies, one of the world’s leading Sherlockians, contributes an introduction acclaiming this book “One only has to read a few pages to realise that Martin Edwards has not only caught the style and quality of the originals, but the characters speak with Doylean voices. In short, Martin Edwards knows his Holmes, and he puts that knowledge to great effect in this set of cases...all the tales presented here are finely constructed mysteries in which Holmes is able to demonstrate his brilliance as a detective. This is partly due, of course, to the fact that Edwards is a fine crime writer in his own right and has great experience in conceiving puzzles to confound his readers.”
The book includes a range of special features, including an essay by Martin Edwards analysing Arthur Conan Doyle’s story-telling gifts, and another looking at how other writers have paid tribute to Sherlock by writing pastiches. There is also an appreciation by leading crime novelist Michael Jecks and a biographical note. As David Stuart Davies says, “This is a gem of a collection, a Blue Carbuncle or a Borgia Pearl of a volume. I recommend this trip down Baker Street guided by the safe stewardship of Martin Edwards.”

I have been a Holmes fan as long as I could read. I have read The Complete Works at least a dozen times. I have only read the 1st story of this book, but I had to leave a review right away. While I am enjoying it, I have already found enough inconsistencies that cause me some slight annoyance. I find the dialog wordier than necessary and Sherlock uses phrases that are just not him. I just can't recall him ever uttering" curiouser and curiouser. " Also, Sherlock would never shout out the name of the murderer and then say, "If we hurry, we can prove it. " Sherlock never announces his opinion until he has all of the proof beyond a shadow of a doubt. Even then he waits until he has all the key players gathered for some dramatic demonstration. I can name a dozen stories, at least, when he says that it is foolish to form an opinion without all the facts, and that many more when he held back his opinion, even from Watson, until he had all the pieces of the puzzle, or at least enough to prove his theory. As I stated, I am enjoying the book. I just have to keep reminding myself that this is not Doyle writing.

The New Mysteries of Sherlock Holmes edition by Martin Edwards Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
Tremendously entertaining! It was easy for me to believe I was reading something Doyle actually wrote. I recommend this book for a fun, enjoyable read.
Martin Edwards is a gifted story teller which is demonstrated by this collection of Sherlock Holmes pastiches. If you like Holmes stories you will love this book.
This series of pastiches have a very authentic read to them. Style of narration, attention to detail and ratiocination involved could be right out of the Canon
I can hear the original influences and see the originals through the Martin Edwards writings within this book....this book is worth it!
I was quickly ahead of Watson in these pastiches, but to my mind this was Doyle's genius...to keep us smug but entertained. As a boy reading the complete Sherlock Holmes, as now, a septuagenarian, I was not baffled, but greedy nonetheless to read to the end of each production, and these pastiches are no different. That is the highest praise I can give! Even my name is a musical inversion of that man...
This would have gotten a 5 if the editing was better. The stories are great. Very authentic to Doyle, well-paced, great plots. But the editing! So much dialogue runs into each other without new paragraphs. It's hard to follow who is talking.
This author confirms what I have suspected for a long time you need to have written at length in the mystery genre before attempting a Sherlock Holmes pastiche. This author has greatly exceeded my expectations as his plots are good, his Watson is excellent and his choice of stories echo what Conan Doyle himself did create a flawed hero made human through is steady biographer. This is the best set of stories written about Holmes and Watson that I have read in awhile, and I possess approximately 80 different authors takes on Holmes and Watson.
I just have a few issues with these stories and I think they are just problems with editing. There is one story where a woman is listed as a cousin to the client. Indeed her being a cousin is important as her fathers passions for art form part of the solution, however I the very next paragraph and for a few pages afterwards the client switches the relationship and calls her his sister which makes no sense at all. I. Addition in a few places the authors thoughts break off without finishing the thought. Also a few words were misspelled or left off the end of the sentence where there presence can be inferred. I think this is simply an editing or translation to kindle problem and they certainly won't affect your enjoyment of these wonderful stories.
